A Beginner's Guide

If you are new to BLOCKLORDS and need a little boost getting started, our Beginner's Guide could be of use. Remember, this is not an exact science, there are many ways to play and certainly ways to improve efficiency. If you have any suggestions on how to improve our Beginner's Guide, please reach out to us!

Picking a Region
TJ.png

When you are first starting out, it is important to select a region with low tax so you can be in a position to upgrade your farm quickly. Everything you produce, buy and sell will be taxed, so the lower the better.

Region rulers may also have region wide buffs and/or debuffs. These are present in the bottom half of this picture and will be either red or green. Hover over them to see what effect they have on a given region.

Starter Hero
Hero

If you just started the game you will have one free Hero. Heroes provide depth to the game by allowing you to mine more resources at a faster pace, participate in adventures, and much more to come. You do not need to buy any additional heroes if you do not want to, this game is completely free to play. Heroes come in many types with varying stats and traits. For a more info on traits and stats, visit the Traits page.

Important Resources

Resources are the driving factor of the game right now and will be required for upgrading buildings, unlocking sectors and advancing your farm.

One resource is especially important in the beginning: Food. Food is needed to rest your squads and without food you will get yourself stuck. Always make sure you have enough food! If you ever run out of food there is only 1 squad that should be working, villagers. Until you get back to the amount of food required to feed your whole farm.

It will only slow down your progress.

Gold can be hard to earn and you can only sell so many resources that you do not need. Most of your gold will be needed to buy more squads. Do NOT spend any gold on cows/grains/oats. These will only be worth it in Sector 3! Hunters and farmers are your best friends to get gold. These resources are fairly easy to gather and since you do not need most of it they are great to earn you some gold.

Event

While playing the game your squads will trigger Events, these will have different outcomes that can be beneficial or detrimental.  We have documented all know events on the Events page and will update the page as more information becomes available.

Preparing for Raids
Raid Logo

After your Foreman House is level 3 you will unlock PvE events. This will mean your farm will get attacked by invading forces, like bears, wolves and marauders.

Raid Logo

These forces will attack every 3-4 hours and can kill your squads. Besides that militia patrolling also have a 5% chance to trigger a PvE fight. For a beginner, this can impact your progress since you will have to spend your hard earned gold to buy new squads, be careful out there farmer!

There will be a warning on the top of your screen when your farm gets attacked.

Invasions in Sector 1 have four points of interest. To prepare your defenses, have squads that are ready for a fight (preferably Hunters & Militia) waiting here. Every other squad that are weak and do not fight (villagers, farmers, cooks, cow herds) should not be in these areas, make sure you either rest them or move them down to the south of the sector.

Defense Layout

Make sure you always send 2 or more squads to attack at the same time. You can have them group up and all walk towards the invading forces. This way your chances of not losing any are increased.

Choosing a Play Strategy

Next, choose a play style that fits you:

  • Slow Growth: If you want to play casually, slow growth may be for you. Your focus here is to just mine resources at a slow pace and relax. You're not going to progress quickly, but the game may be more enjoyable at a less competitive pace.

  • Balanced Growth: with a balanced approach, you will focus on mining resources to build your farm up as well as mining resources to earn more food items such as bread, wheat, grain and milk. You will maintain healthy levels of all resources this way and can use your food items to quickly earn gold in the marketplace. Cooks are okay to have early on, you could replace one Hunter for a cook. You will only need one Farmer due to growth time of your crops. While one field grows, you can harvest and plant on the other farm. The second wheat field should be done growing at that point.

  • Fast Growth: If you want to quickly open Sector 2 (S2) and gain access to more Forest and Stone Deposits, this arrangement will work well. You will need two warehouses and a granary at lvl. 4 to meet the capacity requirements for the resources you will need to unlock S2. Because of this, we will focus on leveling up the granary and using cooks for food. You won't need to use resources to level up your hunting lodge yet as you won't need to subsidize your food with meat very often. You can use your hunters and farmers to earn gold with meat and wheat while your cook makes your grain and food. Focus on upgrading your lumbermill, stone mine, forge, warehouses and granaries in unison with your Foreman House (FH). You will need to save 1k gold to unlock S2, so keep that in mind while using your gold income to buy building resources to speed up your progress. Militia will invite unwanted attacks and cowherds won't be able to efficiently produce milk with this play style, so don't recruit them.

Squad Configuration

Next, choose a squad configuration that will match the style of play you have chosen. These configurations are just suggestions and there are plenty of configurations that can perform just as well, or better, so remember that this is just a basic guideline for beginning.

Fast Growth / Path to Sector 2

There are multiple sectors in your game, which are unlocked after reaching certain stages. If you want to progress as fast as possible we recommend you focus on getting these required buildings leveled so you can get to Sector 3 as soon as possible.

Sector 2

You do not need to max out every building in a sector to continue to the next, if you want to progress fast we recommend you only upgrade the buildings required to unlock sector 2:

Path to Sector 2 (S2)

After you reached the above levels you will meet the requirements to unlock Sector 2. You can do this by looking for the lock icon hovering over the sector. If it does not show up try zooming in and out.

Path to Sector 3
Building

Now that you have unlocked S2 you have gained access to a lot of extra squads, this will help you progress a much faster. These squads all need to have a good rest from time to time, this is why we recommend you focus on getting all houses to level 5, this will help you a lot! After houses you can slowly progress buildings that have production items, like the LumbermillStone Mine and the Hunting Lodge.

Sector 3

Keep in mind you can only spend resources once, so determine for yourself what you want to spend them on! We recommend you not using too many resources on maxing out Sector 1, getting to Sector 3 is your main goal if you want to progress quickly.

Path to Sector 3 (S3)

You will need lots of resources to improve your farm. Gathering these will be your main task (for now). All squads have their own purpose in the game and will be required, yet some of them are not very useful in Sector 1 since you have only so many squad slots.
